An Ode To Our Heritage

The term “Asian American” is very vague, representing many different ethnic backgrounds. Whether one is Japanese, Filipino, Indian, Hmong, etc, they would fall under that umbrella. Although we are diverse, we share a relatively similar “Asian American” experience.

This multi-portrait documentary has a reflexive storyline based on the real-life experiences of the director. It is a story of stories, with three other interview subjects. A graduate student who struggled with the concept of identity. A girl who lives in a multi-generational home. A restaurant owner who saw his own Asian-American community grow and evolve through hardship. They all answer the question;

“What does being Asian American mean to you?”

The answers that they each give are surprisingly different.
